The tragic mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, has shocked the nation. On September 4, a 14-year-old student, identified as Colt Gray, allegedly opened fire at the school, killing four people—two students and two teachers—and injuring nine others. The shooting is the deadliest school shooting since the March 2023 Covenant School tragedy in Nashville. Among the victims were teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimie, along with students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo.

The incident unfolded when the suspect left his Algebra 1 class and later attempted to re-enter with an AR-style rifle. A student’s quick thinking—refusing to let him in—may have prevented further deaths. Instead, the shooter targeted a nearby classroom, firing approximately 10 to 15 rounds before being confronted by school resource officers. He surrendered and is currently in custody, awaiting his court appearance.

This marks the 45th school shooting in the U.S. this year, with mass shootings becoming an all-too-frequent occurrence, leaving communities devastated. The nation continues to grapple with the ongoing issue of gun violence.

The U.S. job market is showing signs of cooling, with ADP reporting only 99,000 jobs added in August, the lowest since January 2021. While hiring has slowed, jobless claims remain steady, and the upcoming non-farm payroll report will determine if this trend continues. Depending on the report's outcome, the Federal Reserve may consider cutting interest rates by more than 25 basis points at its next meeting.

Mortgage rates are highly unpredictable in the short term, and their movement depends on key economic reports like the Employment Situation, which will be released tomorrow. This report holds extra significance as it may influence the Federal Reserve’s upcoming decision on interest rate cuts. If the jobs report comes in significantly below 100k or above 200k, mortgage rates could shift more dramatically—by as much as 0.1% to 0.2%—compared to the usual small changes seen over recent weeks.

Google is rolling out its AI-powered search feature, “Ask Photos,” within Google Photos to select users in the U.S., allowing for more complex, natural language queries. Powered by the Gemini AI model, users can search for photos based on deeper context, such as asking for the best photo from visits to National Parks or determining themes from past birthday parties. The feature, available through Google Labs, respects user privacy by not using data for ad targeting, though Google employees may review search queries to improve AI performance.

The woman explained that after canceling one of two autos booked during peak hours, the driver from the canceled ride followed her, hurled abuse, and became violent. Ola has responded, stating they are investigating the incident.

The Malayalam film industry is currently facing a wave of MeToo allegations, with numerous rape and sexual misconduct accusations surfacing. Among them, Tamil actress Sowmya has come forward, revealing that she was groomed as a "sex slave" by a director when she was 18. In an interview, she detailed how the director and his wife initially treated her kindly, only for the director to later sexually abuse and rape her over the course of a year. Sowmya has expressed her intent to reveal the director's identity to the special police team formed by the Kerala government. These revelations follow the release of the Justice Hema Committee report, which has led to multiple allegations against prominent figures in the Malayalam film industry.

Thalapathy Vijay’s The GOAT, directed by Venkat Prabhu, was released today with fanfare, but the response has been mixed. While the Tamil version is receiving positive reviews, the Telugu version is facing criticism for its lengthy runtime, pacing issues, and song placements. With low opening day occupancies and a high breakeven target in the Telugu states, the film's chances of success in the region seem slim. Meanwhile, Nani's Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is performing strongly across all territories, approaching the 100 crore mark, and is expected to dominate the box office during the Ganesh Chaturthi weekend, especially with no major competition until NTR's Devara releases.

Ram Pothineni and Puri Jagannadh's Double iSmart, a sequel to the hit iSmart Shankar, was released on August 15 but received poor reviews. The film, which stars Sanjay Dutt and Kavya Thapar, quickly made its way to Amazon Prime Video after an underwhelming theatrical run. However, it was leaked online in HD for free download shortly after its OTT debut on September 5. The movie's plot involves a gangster, Big Bull, trying to transfer his memories to the protagonist, Shankar, in an attempt to achieve immortality, leading to a climactic showdown.
