ChatGPT now understands real-time video, seven months after OpenAI first demoed it

OpenAI has introduced real-time video capabilities for ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, initially showcased seven months ago. This feature allows users with ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Pro subscriptions to interact with the app in near real-time by pointing their devices at objects or screen-sharing settings, enabling ChatGPT to provide explanations or solutions. Users can access these features through the ChatGPT app by activating voice and video modes or utilizing screen-sharing via the menu.

The rollout began on Thursday and will conclude within a week for eligible users, though ChatGPT Enterprise, Edu, and users in the EU and certain other countries will need to wait until January or beyond. In a live demonstration, the feature showcased impressive real-time understanding, such as interpreting anatomy sketches during an interactive session on CNN’s 60 Minutes.
