Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) plans to close 1,200 stores over the next three years as new CEO Tim Wentworth leads a turnaround effort amidst weak consumer spending and low drug reimbursement rates. The company narrowly exceeded Wall Street's fourth-quarter profit expectations, with shares rising 12.3%, although they are still down 65% this year. As part of the turnaround, Walgreens has implemented a $1 billion cost-cutting program and plans to focus on closing underperforming, cash-flow-negative stores.

Donald Trump's new crypto project, World Liberty Financial (WLF), had a rough start during its token sale, facing website outages that limited the number of sales. Although over 100,000 people registered to invest, only about 4,300 unique wallet addresses hold the token, representing 4% of the registrants. Despite selling more than 532 million tokens, this amounts to less than 3% of the 20 billion available, marking a potential setback for Trump just weeks before the election.
A weak La Niña is expected to develop ahead of this winter, influencing temperatures and precipitation across the U.S., with effects most pronounced during the winter months. La Niña typically shifts stormy weather to the northern U.S., bringing wetter conditions to the Pacific Northwest, Midwest, and parts of the Northeast, which could help combat ongoing drought. Though forecasts show a weaker La Niña, its impact could still create a stark contrast to last winter's record warmth caused by El Niño and global warming.

Elon Musk's plan to boost revenue for X (formerly Twitter) through increased paid subscriptions is still struggling, with around $200 million in in-app purchase revenue generated across iOS and Android since its 2021 launch. This figure excludes web-based subscriptions, so the total is likely higher, but after accounting for app store commissions, X has made an estimated $140 million. Despite Musk's push to reduce reliance on advertising revenue, the service only brought in $11 million in mobile subscriptions within the first three months after its December 2022 relaunch.
The Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections will take place in two phases, with voting in Jharkhand on November 13 and 20, and in Maharashtra on November 20, followed by vote counting on November 23. The elections come after significant political changes in both states, including the fall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government and money laundering allegations against Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. These polls are crucial for both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress as they battle anti-incumbency and aim for political gains in the final state elections of 2024.
